L’Équipe report this morning that Monaco are in the market for a replacement for Real Madrid-bound midfielder Aurélien Tchouaméni, with the club looking at Lille’s Amadou Onana as well as the Brazilian Danilo, of Palmeiras.
The club will have a sizable transfer budget at its disposal, with the former Bordeaux man set to bring in up to €100m including bonuses, while Kylian Mbappé’s renewal at Paris Saint-Germain will see them cash in the final €35m from his 2017 move.
ASM are looking for a new first-choice midfielder, with the likes of Eliot Matazo fading away at the end of last season, and Jean Lucas seemingly not an option favoured by manager Philippe Clement.
Monaco technical director Laurence Stewart, who works under Paul Mitchell, went to Brazil last month to scout Danilo, the 21-year-old midfielder who has over 100 appearances for Palmeiras, and meet his agents. Monaco are hoping to find more success in Brazil after the transfers of Caio Henrique and Vanderson paid off.
Nevertheless, the defensive midfielder’s arrival could be obstructed by his club, who do not want to sell before the January transfer window, while his €20m price tag is set to rise in the wake of his first Brazil call-up. Marseille are also said to be interested.
Another option for the principality side would be closer to home, with Philippe Clement a fan of Lille midfielder Amadou Onana having tried to sign his compatriot while at Club Brugge last summer. The departures of Xeka and Renato Sanches from Les Dogues could also make a transfer difficult, though.
