THE SIX NATIONS is the best attended sporting event in the world according to a new report commissioned by Uefa.
The report from European football’s governing body found that an average of 72,000 people attended Six Nations matches in 2015 — a competition won by Ireland –compared to 68,400 in the NFL that year and just below 53,600 at the 2014 World Cup.
Indeed, football dominates the list with 29 of the 50 most popular sporting events.

The recent European Championship in France ranks fifth overall while the Premier League ranks 10th – three places behind the Bundesliga for the 2015-16 season.
Having just 15 games undoubtedly helped the Six Nations to the top spot but the popularity of the sport is bolstered by the fact that the 2015 Rugby World Cup, with an average of 51,621 attendees per game, came in fourth on the list.
In terms of aggregate attendees, Major League Baseball comes out on top with 73.8 million bums on seats in 2015 but that was across 2,430 regular season games while nearly 18 million turned out for the 256 NFL games in the same year.
