The Supreme Court of India has decriminalised homosexuality putting a full stop to a 157-year-old colonial-era law that considered consensual sex between homosexuals as “against the order of nature”.
Since the apex court has read down Section 377, now homosexuals and other members of the LGBTQ community will be entitled to report cases of sexual assault and any injustice that they may have to face. Earlier, due to absence of any legal law or judgement, LGBTQ+ members were often blackmailed or manipulated into money extortion for availing their fundamental rights.
