Event, Supported By Li & Fung And British Fashion Council, To Run October 31 – November 1
Dress by designer Mary Katrantzou
Running for two days next week, the British Fashion Council‘s (BFC) LONDON show ROOMS event will introduce some of London’s rising stars to Hong Kong’s fashion crowd. Supported by local trading powerhouse Li & Fung, the inaugural venture is one of the first by the China/Britain Fashion Alliance, formed earlier this year by the BFC, the Beijing International Brand Management Center and the China-Britain Business Council with the aim of promoting British fashion in China. Taking place at The Space Gallery on 210 Hollywood Road, the showroom will include pieces by several BFC/Vogue Designer Fashion Fund shortlist designers, Fashion Forward alumni, and winners of the 2010 British Fashion Menswear and Accessory Designers of the Year awards.
Although major British brands like Burberry and Jimmy Choo continue to record impressive sales figures in Hong Kong and mainland China, organizers of LONDON show ROOMS hope to spur interest in young British designers identified by the BFC as “rising stars,” those with designs somewhat off the beaten path. Designers taking the opportunity to unveil or showcase their new S/S 2012 collections in Hong Kong include E. Tautz, Jonathan Saunders, Mary Katrantzou, Nicholas Kirkwood, Peter Pilotto, Roksanda Ilincic and Todd Lynn.
Originally launched in Paris in October 2008, LONDON show ROOMS takes advantage of the popularity of the pop-up format in recent years to promote British design while nurturing new export possibilities. As Caroline Rush, CEO of the British Fashion Council, said of the upcoming event, “Hong Kong is an invaluable market for our British designer businesses. It is important that they develop their knowledge of and relationships with both media and retailers in this market; LONDON show ROOMS Hong Kong enables them to do that.”
