A roundup of new collections and designers on our radar, including Vega Zaishi Wang, b+ab, and Renli Su.
On Our Radar: London-based Chinese Designer Renli Su
Emerging Chinese fashion designer Renli Su is catching the attention of Londoners (and fashion media) with her fresh take on approach and form. A graduate of the prestigious China Central Academy of Fine Arts in Beijing, Su recently completed her MA in Fashion Design Technology at the London College of Fashion. Inspired by the nomadic lifestyles of Central Asia, Su’s MA collection draws on the fabrics, colors, and methodology of the central plains while exploring the origin of nature, time, and memory. From handwoven face masks, to loosely-stitched draping cloaks, unhemmed wide-legged pants and handcrafted shoes, Su’s collection bears no trace of an industrial touch yet stands as one of the most avant-garde collections we have seen from an emerging Chinese designer.
Vega Zaishi Wang Spring/Summer 2013
One of Jing Daily’s favorite Chinese designers, Beijing-based Vega Zaishi Wang is back with her new Spring/Summer 2013 collection. Referencing her Valentine’s Day exclusive collection with Beijing- and Shanghai indie fashion boutique Dong Liang Studio (Jing Daily interview), Wang continues her use of galaxy prints on silk but, this time, in a series of inspired forms. To us, her collection draws on silhouettes reminiscent of 80s prom dresses and jumpsuits, Oxford dress shirts, and varsity letterman jackets, giving the collection a super sleek and ethereal modern feel while keeping it quirkily young.
b+ab Taps Angelababy For Spring Collection
I.T-owned Hong Kong-based label b+ab recently launched its Spring 2013 collection, “The Surreal Magician,” choosing Hong Kong celebrity Angelababy as the face of the season and featuring colorful, casual ready-wear accented by reimagined magician accessories like top hats and decorated turbans.
