The UK must present its solution to avoiding a hard border with the Republic of Ireland before it can address any other aspect of trade talks in the Brexit negotiations, the president of the European Council has warned.
Donald Tusk heaped pressure on Theresa May to find a solution to the border conundrum during a joint press conference with Leo Varadkar, the Irish prime minister.
"As long as the UK doesn’t present such a solution it is very difficult to imagine substantive progress in the brexit negotiations," Mr Tusk said.
"If in London someone assumes that the negotiations will deal with other issues first before the Irish issue… my response would be ‘Ireland first’.
