In 2018, despite presiding over a booming stock market, low unemployment, and major tax cuts, Donald Trump has decided next month’s US midterm elections are not about the economy. They are about immigration.
According to the Pew Research Center illegal immigration is viewed as a "very big problem" by 75 per cent of Republican voters. That is the highest figure for any issue. It has been reinforced by private polling from battleground states being reviewed by Mr Trump’s strategists.
