West Ham have offered Declan Rice a fresh contract that could be worth over £40,000 per week, Goal can confirm.
The versatile midfielder, who can also play as a defender, has enjoyed a fine start to the season, but turned down the club’s initial offer of a basic £15,000 per week, already a major raise on his current £2,500-per-week deal.
Rice’s international future has also been the subject of much speculation, as he looks to decide between Republic of Ireland and England.
Yet the Irons are keen to put to bed the uncertainty surrounding his club future, with Manuel Pellegrini previously asserting his confidence that Rice’s contract would be finalised.
“Declan must try to continue to have good performances, not thinking about more or less money at the moment,” he said.
Sources within the club have confirmed that the new offer features a basic wage worth £21,000, a £6,000 increase on their previous offer.
A number of bonuses also sweeten the deal somewhat, with Rice set to receive an extra £20,000, on top of his weekly wage, if he starts a Premier League game.
Alternatively, Rice will receive £10,000 if he is named on the substitutes’ bench and £5,000 if he does not come on as a sub.
An extra £5,000 will be added to his basic wage for every 15 games played, meaning that he could end the season earning a basic weekly wage of £31,000.
With a total of 30 games remaining – Rice has played 90 minutes in the Irons’ last four outings – he could earn a maximum of £600,000 in bonuses if he starts every game, while he will also have his basic wage topped up at the same time.
His base wage of £21,000 per week would equate to over £1 million per year.
There is a confidence within the club that Rice will commit to the more preferable terms, despite the fact that a number of clubs are reportedly monitoring his situation, including Arsenal and Tottenham.
