Newly promoted to Ligue 1 side FC Lorient have completed their first piece of summer business on the opening day of the transfer window, landing 36-year-old left-sided defender Jérémy Morel on a free transfer from Rennes.
Morel, who had proven a useful squad player for Julien Stéphan’s side who will fight in the Champions’ League qualification rounds next season, joins on a 12-month deal with the option to extend by a further year.
A key reason for him opting to return to the Brittany side is that manager Christophe Pelissier has informed the play that he will not prevent him from representing Madagascar as much as he wants, his national team of choice.
Morel thus returns to the club where his professional career began back in 2002, having had spells at Lyon, Marseille and then Rennes in between in a fantastic French footballing career.
