Event To Take Place From May 16-23 At Newly Opened Rockbund Art Museum
SFJAF — May 16-23, 2010 at the Rockbund Art Museum
This weekend, the Shanghai Fine Jewellery and Art Fair (SFJAF) will kick off for the second time, giving visitors a chance to get their hands on antiques, modern and contemporary art and fine jewellery. The fair will continue from May 16-23.
Taking place this year at the recently reopened Shanghai Rockbund Art Museum (previously on Jing Daily), key pieces on exhibit include Ron Arad’s “Free Standing China” bookcase and rare crystal pieces by Rene Lalique that were previously exhibited at the 1925 Paris World Expo.
Note: Jing Daily is a media partner for the event, along with other publications such as the Wall Street Journal, the Global Times, and Surface magazine.
For Chinese contemporary art lovers, the SFJAF has plenty to offer. Contrasts Gallery (181 Middle Jiangxi Road, G/F, Shanghai 200002) will present ink paintings by two prominent contemporary Chinese calligraphers, Wang Tiande and Wang Dongling, and JGM Galerie will show a range of modern and contemporary works, including sculptures, photography and paintings. Although most of the works up for sale will likely have hefty price tags, look for some good buys particularly in contemporary Chinese photography — although you might have to fight with enthusiastic new Chinese collectors over high-quality pieces.
