5 Tips for a Stress Free Wedding Day
Five Honest Tips for a Low Stress Wedding Day
Author: Tiffany Hight / Photo: Erin Taylor Photography
Remember when Michael Scott and Jan Levinson hosted their first dinner party as a couple and the night crashed and burned with a broken Toshiba/abused Dundee/police welfare check? Let’s aim for the opposite of that for your wedding day.
Here’s how to ride a DGAF high the day of your wedding.
1. ASK “WILL THIS MATTER IN 5 YEARS?”
If the bridesmaid’s dress isn’t as mauve as you wanted, if your sister is cleaving out for attention, if the cake came with the wrong frosting flavor, ask yourself if you will even give a crap in 5 years. Invest your energy wisely. You’ll look even more bangin’ in photos.
2. DO NOT DO EVERYTHING
Everyone who knows you knows you’re a bad bitch. So you have nothing to prove on your wedding day. Don’t be afraid to delegate to avoid staying up til 2 am the night before. Even if you’re a DIY maven, resist the urge to do it all. Plus, you have tons of people asking how they can help. They love you, and truly want to help you however they can. SO STEP AWAY FROM THE GLUE GUN AND GO TO BED.
3. TREAT YOURSELF KINDLY
No extreme diets the week of your wedding, period. It’s one thing to skip refried beans to avoid day-of bloat. It’s quite another to launch into KETO and cry-eat cake in the bathroom. Treat your body well! Dance suggestively to Toxic! Throw back a shot, you are getting married!
4. LIZZO IS LIZZO – YOU BE YOU
Our Lady Lizzo would never be anything but a human disco ball of self-love. Do the same for your own brand! If you’re a free spirit, avoid a severe chignon. If you don’t do heels, don’t attempt heels. Aim to be an elevated version of yourself and no one else.
5. YOUR MINDSET WILL MAKE (OR TANK)
YOUR DAY
We all have that friend who attracts all the bad juju, and the friend who seems to be effortlessly winning. 99% of this is down to mindset. Imagine the liberation of going into your wedding ACCEPTING something will go imperfectly vs FEARING it. Do not get in your own way, sis!
The morning of your wedding, set aside 10-20 min first thing in the morning (away from the fam) to set intentions for the day. Go somewhere quiet, light a candle, pray, meditate, listen to a podcast, journal, or Google pictures of Ryan Gosling holding puppies. Whatever clears your head and opens your heart is golden.
Obviously goal #1 is marriage, but goal #2 is FUN (and avoiding pissing everyone off in your extended family, but mostly fun)
