L’Équipe report that Ligue 1 side Rennes were offered the possibility to sign Spanish striker and Atletico Madrid man Fernando Torres before eventually opting for West Ham United’s Diafra Sakho.
The 33-year-old is seeking increased playing time, and Rennes could have matched his financial demands, but ultimately did not believe that it was worth it vis-à-vis the amount of goals that they believe he would have brought to the club.

A line on Diafra Sakho too – RMC reported last night that West Ham actually sold the player for €5m, way off of the €10m being suggested by the English press. The reality appears to be somewhat in the middle, with €5m as the initial fee plus some bonuses.
