Le Parisien report this evening that Ligue 1 champions PSG have agreed a provisional contract with Chelsea midfielder N’Golo Kanté ahead of a possible move, with the fact that the Premier League side are not playing Champions’ League football a main driver in discussions.
In truth, talks between Kanté’s entourage and PSG have been ongoing for months, and the fruit of Sporting Director Antero Henrique’s labours appear to now be this provisional contract agreement.
However, Kanté is still far away from signing for the Ligue 1 club, despite his particular attachment to Paris as a city, where his family currently live. Kanté notably surprised some of his closest friends in Suresnes, just outside Paris, when he was given time off alongside the rest of the squad after France’s international friendly victory over Italy in Nice. He didn’t tell his pals that he was coming, evoking joy at his surprise visit.
PSG quite simply do not have the financial capacity to sign Kanté this summer, with newspaper evoking a €110m minimum price and Spanish duo Real Madrid and Barcelona equally keen on purchasing the World Cup winner, owing to their Financial Fair Play difficulties.
The only way that PSG could afford to sign Kanté this summer is if they sell Grzegorz Krychowiak, Gonçalo Guedes, Angel di Maria, Jesé and Alphonse Areola – it is a long shot, but then again this time last year nobody believed that Les Parisiens had the capability to sign Kylian Mbappé either.
