Player Ratings | Angers 3-0 Lyon: Marcelo’s nightmare helps a dynamic Angers to deserved win

Posted on January 22, 2024 by FASHIONISLANDBLOG

ANGERS – 3 (Boufal 20′, Marcelo OG 53′, Ounahi 77′)

Paul Bernardoni, 6 – Largely untroubled in the second half but produced a handful of smart saves besides.

Ismaël Traoré, 5

Romain Thomas, 5

Vincent Manceau, 5

Souleyman Doumbia, 5

Jimmy Cabot, 6 – Adapting well to the wing-back role, a position he is well suited to despite a career as an attacking midfielder up to now. Played with intensity and was surprisingly effective in right-back areas as well as further forward. Set up the opener.

Batista Mendy, 7 – Superb debut. Highly regarded at Nantes before being exiled last season and FCN will be rueing his departure now. Often pinched the ball in front of his defence at key times and gracefully sprayed passes around midfield. Outplayed Paquetá and Bruno with ease.

Thomas Mangani, 6 – One of Ligue 1’s most underrated players in this form with some clever use of the ball in midfield alongside Mendy.

Sofiane Boufal, 7 – Led the Angers charge with a far more committed display than many of his previous outings for Le SCO. His precise finish from a tight angle to open the scoring was more difficult that it looked.

Angelo Fulgini, 6

Mohamed-Ali Cho, 7 – Exciting display, using his pace and neat touch to stretch Lyon and combine to great effect with Boufal and Fulgini. Lyon couldn’t handle his movement.

Others: Ounahi 7, Ninga 5, Capelle 5, Bahoken 5.

LYON – 0

Anthony Lopes, 4 – Made a couple of good interventions but was arguably at fault for the opener, unable to palm Cabot’s cross away from Boufal.

Léo Dubois, 5 – Sneaks a five having been Lyon’s main creative threat with some dangerous crosses but was badly stretched by Cho at times.

Marcelo, 1 – Awful. Lucky not to be sent off more than once and a lazy back pass resulted in a comical own goal.

Castello Lukeba, 4

Maxwell Cornet, 2 – No effect on the game at either end and struggled with the direct style and pace of Cho and others before a lunging tackle drew a second yellow. Looks to be distracted by a possible move.

Bruno Guimarães, 4

Houssem Aouar, 5 – Just about good enough for five with some clever passing including one superb through ball for Toko-Ekambi but it was a typical nowadays Aouar display in truth – sufficiently pleasing on the eye at times but failing to take charge when needed.

Lucas Paquetá, 3 – The game passed him by and is looking way off the pace following a late return from the Copa America. Subbed at half time.

Islam Slimani, 4 – Largely isolated and squandered his only real chance – a point blank free header he really should have scored.

Karl Toko-Ekambi, 3 – Largely uninvolved and somehow headed wide with the goal wide open in the first half.

Moussa Dembélé, 4
