L’Équipe report today that Bordeaux goalkeeper Benoît Costil could be set to make a return to the starting lineup following a series of poor performances by young understudy Gaëtan Poussin.
Despite manager David Guion insisting that the decision to bench the French international a purely sporting one, Costil’s recent clash with the club’s main ultras group and the ensuing allegations of racism have not helped.
His support for Laurent Koscielny, who was cast aside in January and made to leave the playing squad, also worked against him, having already presided over Ligue 1’s worst defence this season.
With Les Girondins currently four points off the relegation play-off spot, the urgency of the situation could see Costil rushed back into the lineup to face Nantes tomorrow, with Poussin conceding 8 goals in his last two games amid numerous errors.
