As reported by L’Équipe, in speaking after Lens’ first pre-season friendly, a 3-0 win over Valenciennes, RCL midfielder Seko Fofana paid tribute to partner, the Crystal Palace-bound Cheick Doucouré, and discussed his own future. The local press meanwhile report that PSG won’t be signing the player this summer despite making enquires with the 27-year-old interested in staying with Lens for another season.
What is your reaction following the departure of Cheick Doucouré?“You have to be honest, he’s irreplaceable… We’ll have to move on but it’s weird not to be next to Cheick. I only wish him the best for the future. He was in my shadow a lot, maybe because I was scoring goals, but he brought a lot to the club. He left through the front door. I have a lot of respect for him, I consider him to be one or the best players I’ve ever played with.”
What are your plans this summer?“I’m at Lens, I’m very happy to be here, to be able to train, to progress… after that, anything is possible. We are in the transfer window period, there’s a lot of reflection. One day you’re staying, the next you’re going to leave. You don’t really know. I’m very calm about that.”
Can other departures encourage you to do the same?“It’s part of football, I don’t worry too much. I don’t look at others, I ask questions internally – I don’t need to expose them to you. I’m enjoying myself here with my friends. When you see a guy like Cheick leave, it’s a little weird, but it’s a normal situation that must be accepted. As long as I wear this jersey, I will be Lensois.”
So if you don’t have a big project, you will stay with Lens?“I didn’t say that. I’m just focusing on my preparation. There’s no pressure. I have many ties to Lens, with this region, I’m here to play and do my job.”
