Lyon owner John Textor has called Marseille “a small club” during the unveiling of Luis Henrique (20) at Botafogo. Henrique joins Botafogo, a club also owned by Textor, on a season-long loan from Marseille.
Henrique’s loan also includes an option to buy that could become an obligation to buy if certain conditions are met. During his unveiling, at which Textor was present, Lyon’s new American owner took the opportunity to mock the club’s fierce rivals.
In a press conference, transcribed by Daily Mercato, he said, “Luis Henrique played for a small club in France called Marseille. Lyon supporters, I hope you enjoy the joke.”

Textor became Lyon’s majority shareholder in late June and has already invested €40m into the playing squad. The American’s comments are sure to fan the flames of Lyon’s intense rivalry with Marseille. The two will face each other at the Orange Vélodrome on the weekend of the 6th of November, whilst the return leg is scheduled for late April.
