L’Équipe report this afternoon that Bayern Munich are set to come in with a third offer for young Rennes forward Mathys Tel, having already seen their bid of €22.5m including bonuses dismissed.
The Bundesliga champions have been following the 17-year-old, who has seven appearances in Ligue 1 this past season, for several years now, and are looking to reinforce their attacking options in the wake of Robert Lewandowski’s imminent departure for Barcelona and a busy schedule in 2022/23.
The player – who was recently crowned European U17 champion with France – is seen as technically and physically capable, and as a player who can immediately become part of the forwards’ rotation in Bavaria, potentially playing around 20 games. The club have presented a long-term project by which he would become the definitive number nine for the German club, a proposition which has reportedly won him over.
Rennes are aware of the player’s desire to leave and are under no illusions of keeping him, even if they are wary of the symbolic aspect of the sale, given he is the brightest talent of the academy and has yet to play a full season in Brittany.
Discussions are set to continue in the coming hours, with the third offer potentially reaching €25m including bonuses, after the initial €7m plus €10min bonuses was turned down.
