Stade Brestois have announced the departure of Jere Uronen (28) on loan. The Finnish defender joins Bundesliga side Schalke 04 until the end of the season, in a deal which includes a buy option.
Uronen joined Ligue 1 side Brest from KRC Genk in July 2021 and has since made 23 appearances for the French club, including six in Ligue 1 this season. The defender, who has 61 caps for the Finland national team, has a contract which runs until the summer of 2024.
However, he may not see out that contract. Uronen has joined Schalke on a paid loan until the end of the season, and the deal includes an option to make the deal permanent. He leaves a Brest side that are currently mired in a relegation battle. The club are currently 17th in Ligue 1, which this season is synonymous with relegation. He trades that relegation battle for another, joining a Schalke side currently bottom of the Bundesliga.
