Santi Aouna of Foot Mercato reports this afternoon that Red Star FC manager and former right-back Habib Beye is now the favourite to take over at Brest, who sacked Michel Der Zakarian two weeks ago.
The 45-year-old was initially part of a shortlist drawn up by sporting director Grégory Lorenzi, which also included Paris Saint-Germain youth coach Zoumana Camara.
Lorienzi has also met with Jocelyn Gourvennec, the former Lille and Bordeaux manager who found success at fellow Breton club Guingamp, and is a Brest native.
Beye, who is also a pundit for Canal+, has now emerged as the favourite, with his representatives on good terms with the club. Brest are in no rush to name a new manager, and the current interim trio of Julien Lachuer, Bruno Grougi and Yvan Bourgis are expected to remain in place until the World Cup. The team currently sit 18th in Ligue 1 – an automatic relegation spot this season – and have just two wins all season.
