Real Madrid forward Vinícius Júnior finished 8th in the 2022 Ballon d’Or rankings. Speaking to L’Équipe, Arkadiusz Milik, currently on loan at Juventus from Marseille, revealed his dissatisfaction with the Brazilian finishing so low on the top 10 list despite winning the Champions League and La Liga last season and contributing massively to the team’s success.
When asked about the position of his international teammate Robert Lewandowski (who finished fourth on the rankings), Milik acknowledged that only the winner of the Ballon d’Or matters.
While elaborating on why that is so, the 28-year-old striker took the example of Vinícius Júnior, somewhat implying that the Brazilian might’ve deserved a better rank than that. Milik said:
“Basically, does it matter whether you are fourth or fifth? There are many things with which I don’t agree, especially with the ranking of Vinícius Júnior. But that doesn’t count so much. So, congratulations to Benzema, who was the best.”
Paris Saint-Germain forward Neymar also questioned Vinícius Júnior’s ranking in the Ballon d’Or this year, posting on his Twitter handle, “He (Vinícius) should at least be in the top three.”
