As we reported last week, MMA legend and lifelong pro wrestling fan Daniel Cormier is scheduled to have a tryout with WWE after his upcoming fight at UFC 230. The current two-weight champion is hoping to land a position on the broadcast team.
According to the Wrestling Observer Newsletter it’s actually FOX that wants Cormier in the role, as he does a lot of work behind the microphone for UFC when not performing in the octagon, and the network is said to be really high on him.
FOX will actually be losing UFC programming in 2019, so with the extremely lucrative new deal in place with WWE they’re hoping to retain one of the most recognizable names in the combat sports industry in some capacity.
As reported, once Smackdown Live moves to Friday nights next year FOX wants to focus the program more on the “sports” aspect of pro wrestling in order to advertise the show as a part of a new four-day power block during football season, along with the NFL on Thursday and Sunday nights, and college football on Saturdays.
