In an unexpected twist, Dalton Castle will NOT be leaving tonight’s Ring of Honor television taping event as the ROH World Champion.
Just 24 hours after successfully defending the title at Best in the World, live on pay-per-view, Castle was once again forced to put the gold on the line in a fatal 4-way match featuring Jay Lethal, Cody Rhodes and Matt Taven. While it was widely assumed that the “American Nightmare” would be taking back the title this weekend to build up his match against NWA Champion Nick Aldis at ALL IN, it was actually Lethal who left the taping victorious.
While Lethal had been on a downward spiral since losing the ROH World Championship back in 2016, the promotion has been building him back up over the last few months with big wins over every major name that had previously defeated him. Most recently, he defeated New Japan Pro Wrestling star Kushida in an excellent match at Best in the World. This is his second reign as world champion, after holding the title for more than 400 days during his first run.
