Vince McMahon made what some considered to be a surprising comment regarding a potential sale of WWE at the third-quarter conference call on Thursday.
During the investor brought up the recent UFC sale to WME | IMG, reported to be for $4.2 billion, as well as the big Time Warner / AT&T merger, and asked if they would be willing to sell WWE, Vince claimed that they would consider such a move.
As McMahon put it, WWE is “open for business” now as they always are, noting that they are businessmen first and foremost and are primarily concerned with making sure that whatever business decisions they make leave them in full control of their own destiny.
The WWE Chairman would go on to elaborate, as he pointed out that the amount of control they would lose if they were to make such a move would be dependant on the terms. He also mentioned that the company’s future plans involve them being the creators of their own content, but claimed that he is still willing to listen to offers, particularly the type that the company “couldn’t refuse.”
