TNA has reportedly altered their stance regarding talent contracts in recent weeks.
The promotion, which recently re-signed Jeff Hardy, James Storm and The Wolves to contracts with guaranteed money, is allowing talent to accept independent bookings, but is requiring the promoters to book them through the TNA office, with TNA getting the booking fees.
Essentially, TNA talents are getting regular paychecks every two weeks, and the extra indy dates are considered part of their guaranteed deals.
Dave Meltzer of the Wrestling Observer Newsletter reported the following in this week’s issue:
“If TNA can sign someone for $100,000 per year, and then book them two dates per week at $750 per shot, with a few weekends off here and there, that can be close to $75,000 a year of income coming in. If they can get $1,000 per shot for them, they’ll make virtually the entire contract back.”
The new deals explain how talents like James Storm was able to get more money with them than he would have made working in NXT.
Because TNA won’t be running live events and is now strictly a television-based promotion, the idea is for them to increase demand for their talent so they can ultimately recoup a good portion of their contract via outside bookings.
