Seven wrestlers still alive for championship titles
In its first action of the new year, the No. 3 Minnesota Wrestling team currently sits in second place after the first day of competition at the Southern Scuffle in Chattanooga, Tenn. The team finished the day with 94.0 team points, trailing only Penn State who finished with 102.0 points on the day.
Seven Gophers are currently undefeated and remain alive in their quests for individual championship titles; Chris Dardanes (133), Nick Dardanes (141), Dylan Ness (149), Logan Storley (174), Kevin Steinhaus (184), Scott Schiller (197), and Tony Nelson (HWT).
Thirteen other wrestlers competed in the tournament for the Maroon and Gold (two unattached). Only five of those remain as David Thorn (125), Pat Smith (157), Danny Zilverberg (157), Cody Yohn (165), and Brett Pfarr (197) will participate in the consolation brackets of their respective weight classes tomorrow.
The Gophers return to the mat tomorrow beginning at 9:00 a.m. CST with the 4th Round Consolation matches. The Semifinals will follow at 11 a.m. After an afternoon break, the competition will resume with the Finals at 5:00 p.m.
