With SmackDown’s next brand-specific pay-per-view taking place two weeks after the Royal Rumble, WWE didn’t wait until after that show to start building to the Elimination Chamber.
Predictably, the main event of the PPV will see the WWE Championship defended in an Elimination Chamber match. Shane McMahon made the announcement to open tonight’s SmackDown after it had been hyped by WWE earlier in the day that he would be kicking off the show with news.
Before the Elimination Chamber, AJ Styles will defend the WWE title against John Cena at the Royal Rumble in San Antonio, Texas. The winner of that will go on to defend their title in the Chamber match.
None of the six participants were announced for the match aside from whoever is champion. The PPV is SmackDown’s final one before WrestleMania, which would seem to indicate that whoever walks out as champion will be defending the title in Orlando at WWE’s biggest show of the year.
The 2017 Elimination Chamber PPV will take place at the Talking Stick Resort in Phoenix, Arizona on February 12th. The WWE title match is the first officially announced for the event.
