World Series Wrestling held three International Assault: Best of the Best shows in Australia this weekend.
Night one (Melbourne) —
– The Parea defeated Filip Bros
– Hangman Page defeated Chris Basso
Page looked great.
– Indi Hartwell defeated Laura James
– Abyss defeated Jimmy Havoc in a Monster’s Ball match
There were lots of gross weapon shots to the head, thumbtack spots, and sick bumps (by Havoc), Abyss could barely move and didn’t bump once — just took weapon shots.
– Zack Sabre Jr. defeated Slex
Good match. After it was over, Sabre said he’d come to fight Australia’s best and would make Jonah Rock tap out tomorrow night.
– Marty Scurll defeated Robbie Eagles
Great match. Scurll won with the chicken wing.
– Concrete Dongs (Joey Ryan & Concrete Davidson) defeated Mick Moretti & Madison Eagles
Fun match — it was your standard Joey Ryan affair.
– Brian Cage defeated Austin Aries and Johnny Impact to win the WSW World Championship
The crowd popped huge for Cage winning the title, which was held by Aries.
Night two (Melbourne) —
– Austin Aries said he wanted to make history and defend the Impact World title in back-to-back matches, which he did against two local young wrestlers.
– Impact World Champion Austin Aries defeated Royce Chambers to retain his title
Aries won in five seconds with the Last Chancery.
– Impact World Champion Austin Aries defeated Sammy Falcon to retain his title
This lasted for 10 seconds, with Aries using a brainbuster to retain.
– Impact World Champion Austin Aries defeated Hangman Page to retain his title
Page entered and asked for a title shot since he was Aries’ scheduled opponent. Aries hit him with the belt before the bell.
Page did a moonsault off a rickety part of the grandstand and survived. Aries hit the discus elbow hard and busted Page open — Page looked concussed and they botched a fireman’s carry spot on the apron. Aries got busted open above the eye too.
Aries won with a roll-up and tried to get his feet on the ropes but couldn’t reach.
– Mick Moretti & Madison Eagles defeated Mark Kage & Laura James
Moretti plays a jester and is great at it. Eagles is an absolute powerhouse.
– Robbie Eagles defeated Jimmy Havoc, Marty Scurll, and Abyss in a four-way match
Scurll was meant to wrestle Slex, but Slex couldn’t compete due to an injury. Scurll didn’t do anything crazy in the match. Eagles bumped like a madman and got the pin after hitting his finish on Havoc into the thumbtacks. Poor Abyss can barely move and didn’t take a bump — just head shots with baking trays.
– Jonah Rock defeated Zack Sabre Jr.
Rock won in a brutally stiff, great match. They did hard chops and slaps, with their chests turning red. Both looked great — Rock is so quick and Sabre is extremely technical.
– WSW Tag Team Champions Concrete Dongs (Joey Ryan & Concrete Davidson) defeated Filip Bros (Tome & Stevie) to retain their titles
This was all comedy. They did 10 minutes of baby oil spots before the match. The crowd was in hysterics, chanting “oil forever.”
– Johnny Impact defeated Brian Cage to win the WSW World Championship
Impact won the championship one night after Cage did, with the crowd again popping for the title change. They had a very good match with lots of cool spots. Impact won after a Spanish Fly off the top rope and Starship Pain.
Night three (Adelaide) —
– Chris Basso defeated Nick Armstrong
Slex was supposed to be in this match but was still injured.
– Laura James defeated Savannah Summers
– Robbie Eagles defeated Zack Sabre Jr.
They had a great match, with Eagles winning in a massive surprise.
– Jonah Rock defeated Grimm, Abyss, and Jimmy Havoc in a four-way match
They had a brutal match with lots of head shots. Havoc took three tack bumps for the third night in a row.
– The Parea defeated The Rude Ones
– Marty Scurll defeated Brian Cage
Scurll won after interference by Jonah Rock, who came down to challenge Cage mid-match. Scurll rolled up Cage after he took a hit from Rock and a low blow from Scurll.
– Hangman Page defeated Joey Ryan
Page had a heavy bandage over his eye but looked fine. He said Ryan was dead (referencing their storyline on Being the Elite) and there’d be no match, so he called out a girl in the third row wearing floral, saying that he may as well wrestle her.
Laura James came out and challenged Page before Ryan made his entrance. Ryan did his usual shtick and did an Undertaker impression as the match started, sitting straight up, attempting a chokeslam, and slowly walking after Page.
The referee took a bump and James did a slip and slide off Ryan and onto Page. This brought Scurll down. He tried the finger break spot on James, who forced Scurll to touch Ryan’s groin and get flipped by it.
Ryan went for a superkick, but Page dodged and James took it. Page grabbed Ryan’s tights for the roll-up and win. No idea if this will be shown or mentioned on Being the Elite.
– Austin Aries defeated Johnny Impact to win the WSW World Championship
Bit of hot potato with the title this weekend. They had a good match. Morrison went for the Starship Pain, but Aries got the belt up. He hit a dropkick and a brainbuster before getting the pin.
