Ridgewater had seven wrestlers entered in the MCAC North District Qualifier. Two wrestlers were unable to compete because of injuries. Of the five wrestlers who were able to take the mat, all five earned a berth into the NJCAA National Tournament which is scheduled for February 23rd and 24th in Council Bluffs, Iowa.
Ridgewater was led by Mark Voss who went 2-0 with one fall to win the 149-pound championship. Voss was also named the MCAC Wrestler of the Year for his efforts this season.
Lucas Hagel, Augustus Siaway, and Nathan Hellman all went 1-1 and took 2nd place in their weight classes. Hagel won his first match by a 19-4 technical fall and dropped a tight 10-11 decision in the finals at 125 pounds.
At 165 lbs Siaway won a thrilling overtime match to advance to the finals where he lost a nail-biter in overtime to place second.
Hellman opened with a 7-2 win over a returning national qualifier before dropping a 9-6 decision to the #6 nationally ranked Luis Pinto in the heavyweight finals.
The final Warrior wrestler to qualify was Jareth Hoernemann at 197 lbs. Hoernemann went 1-1 with one fall to place third behind two nationally ranked wrestlers. He was chosen as a wild card entry by the coaches panel.
