NJPW announced two departures tonight, as both Michael Elgin and Teruaki Kanemitsu are gone from the promotion.
Elgin’s contract was not renewed and expired on March 31st. He had been part of the promotion since 2015, and signed a contract in 2016. He most recently was a part of the New Japan Cup tour, participating in the tournament but failing to topple Kazuchika Okada in the first round. His final match with the company was on 3/24, teaming with Colt Cabana and Toa Henare to defeat TenKoji and Shota Umino.
Kanemitsu has also left the promotion. He was a young lion whose career was derailed with a cervical spine injury in late 2016 that kept him out of action for over two years. He made his return this past December, teaming with Ren Narita in a losing effort against Ayato Yoshida and Shota Umino during the Road to Tokyo Dome tour. He didn’t wrestle again after his return bout.
