Former Northfield coach and MWCA Dave Bartelma Hall of Fame member
Howard Carl Peterson, born May 2, 1928, passed away Friday, January 2 after a prolonged battle with Alzheimer’s Disease. He is survived by his children Debra DeWolfe (Paul), John (Julie), Sue Mertens (Troy) and David (Lynae), seven grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife, Patricia.

Perhaps better known as ‘Howie’, he was inducted as a charter member of the MN Wrestling Coaches Association’s Dave Bartelma Hall of Fame. His teams from Northfield were always among the toughest in the Big Nine conference and Region 1 during the 1960’s and early 70’s. He was one of the original organizers of the MWCA, and was the creator/publisher of Minnesota Wrestling News, which later became The Guillotine.
Funeral service Tuesday, Jan. 6, 2015, 4:30 pm, with visitation starting at 3pm, all at Dare’s Funeral Home, 805 Main St NW, Elk River, MN. Interment at Fort Snelling National Cemetery. In lieu of memorials and flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the Alzheimer’s Association.
