Clouds billow above Manhattan after steam pipe bursts

A burst pipe under Manhattan’s Flatiron District caused disruption to residents and commuters as steam clouds billowed over the city during rush hour. 

Local media reports say 5 people were taken to hospital with minor injuries, while a crater was left in the street where the explosion happened. 

The New York Police Department advised residents to plan alternative routes while authorities located the source of the blast.
