DISNEY WORLD, FL —Disney World called it “unexpected downtime.” For visitors, it was a malfunction that left them swinging in cars above the park for almost two hour.
One of Disney World’s new Skyliner gondola rides stopped while in mid-air on Saturday night, leaving more than a dozen passengers. Disney World says that there were no injuries.
The incident happened around 10 p.m. and passengers would remain in the air for almost two hours.
One of the people stranded was Cierra Putman, a reporter for WFTV in Florida.
She tweeted about the experience.
In a statement, Disney says that the Skyliner “experienced an unexpected downtime” and would remain closed while an investigation into what happened takes place.
The Skyliner opened on Sept. 29 and allows riders to travel between Epcot and Disney’s Hollywood Studios and Disney World’s Art of Animation Resort, Disney’s Pop Century Resort, Disney’s Caribbean Beach Resort and the new Disney’s Riviera Resort, which is set to open in December.
