The 30-year-old goalkeeper does not want to stay on the bench at Liverpool and is confused after his team-mate was allowed to join Besiktas
Simon Mignolet has been left frustrated by Liverpool’s decision to deny him a loan move while allowing Loris Karius to join Besiktas.
Mignolet has not played a competitive game for Liverpool since late-January, having been dropped from the first-team for Loris Karius halfway through last season.
The Belgium international seemingly has no way to claim the No.1 spot back following the summer signing of Alisson from Roma and hoped he would be allowed to leave before the transfer window closes.
Instead, Mignolet has been called upon to act as backup for Alisson so far this season, while Karius has been sent to Besiktas on a two-year loan deal.
And the 30-year-old is not happy with being stuck on the bench despite receiving offers for a temporary move away from Anfield.
“Karius’ transfer changed nothing for me,” He told Het Laatste Nieuws. “I’ve always been clear: I want to play. Whether I’m No.2 or No.3 doesn’t matter. Playing time is the most important thing.
“I haven’t been told anything since Loris left. I don’t know what my future with Liverpool looks like. We shall see what happens this week.
“I find it strange that Karius was loaned out, while I also had options for a loan. But for some reason that wasn’t possible.
“A keeper who was made first choice ahead of me last year gets to leave on loan. Strange.”

Mignolet had been linked with a move to Italy recenlty, as his agent confirmed interest from Napoli.
“The interest isn’t new,” he said earlier this month. “Napoli like Mignolet.
“They have previously enquired about his availability in other transfer windows. This will not be the last word on a move to them.
“We will wait over the next few days to see if they will present an offer.”
Karius has made over 200 appearances for Liverpool since joining from Sunderland in 2013.
