The 34-year-old hasn’t featured for his nation since the 2018 World Cup but is now back in contention for the Seleccao’s upcoming clashes
Joao Cancelo is thrilled Cristiano Ronaldo is back in the Portugal setup, stating that the Juventus superstar has nothing to prove.
Ronaldo, now 34 years old, last played for his nation at the 2018 World Cup, but is part of the squad for Euro 2020 qualifiers against Ukraine and Serbia.

And having seen his countryman almost single-handedly drag his club side through to the quarter-finals of the Champions League, Cancelo is is happy to see Ronaldo return to the Portugal fold.
“Cristiano adds quality to any team he plays with,” the right-back told a news conference.
“We have the pleasure of playing alongside him here with the national team, and for me with Juventus. He’s one more player to help us and of course he’s very important.
“The win against with Atletico Madrid? Ronaldo was really important for us going through, but the whole team did well, even if having him in the team makes it easier.
“Anyone who watched the game knows we won deservedly – Cristiano doesn’t have to prove anything to anyone.
“In the national team or at any club where he’s played he’s made history and obviously he will add the same kind of quality he’s added wherever he has played.”
The Portuguese pair are gearing up to host Ukraine in Lisbon on Friday before welcoming Serbia to Estadio da Luz three days later, but the press has plenty of interest in Cancelo’s development at club level.
Indeed, while the full-back is often praised for his attacking prowess, working in tandem with some of the fiercest centre-backs in Serie A has given the 24-year-old a further boost to his confidence.
“I learn something every year,” Cancelo said of his continued growth.
“Now I’m training with two best defenders in the world, [Leonardo] Bonucci and [Giorgio] Chiellini.
“In Italy the bar is very high and today I feel much better than I did a year or two ago.”
Juventus return to Serie A action with a home clash against Empoli on March 31st, with another two two domestic clashes to take in before the first leg of their Champions League quarter-final match-up with Ajax.
