Showing his fifth collection on September 27 at Paris Fashion Week, 25-year-old designer Yang Li represents the rise of a generation of young China-born designers based in the world’s fashion capitals, such as London and Paris. Born in Beijing, raised in Australia, and educated at Central Saint Martins in London, Yang’s global background and stint at Raf Simons inspired him to create “something with the energy of a young designer that could fit in the Paris environment,” he told the South China Morning Post. His designs have been referred to as “razor-sharp” and “minimalist”, while his Spring/Summer 2014 collection saw a combination of military references and “raw grace” with long, full skirts and dresses with unfinished edges.
