Shanghai Tang Loft Will Run At Pedder Building From October 23, 2011 – February 20, 2012

As Jing Daily reported this past April, Hong Kong mainstay and Richemont-owned high-end fashion house Shanghai Tang will soon vacate its longtime Hong Kong flagship location, replaced by the American brand Abercrombie & Fitch. Following a fierce bidding war between the two retail powers, Abercrombie & Fitch emerged victorious, though rent for the prime Central location rise 250 percent to HK$7 million (US$900,000) per month. While A&F might be willing to shell out such exorbitant rental costs to cultivate Hong Kong as its eventual launchpad into the Greater China region, Shanghai Tang — which also has eyes on doubling its locations in mainland China — has plenty to keep it busy.
Kicking off yesterday, October 23, and running through February 20, 2012, Shanghai Tang is testing out a new “pop-up” loft concept upstairs from its first location in the sixth floor of the Pedder Building in Hong Kong. This temporary location will run as the company prepares its new Hong Kong flagship, a 20,000 square foot, four-story “Shanghai Tang Mansion,” which is expected to open in March 2012.
While Shanghai Tang readies its new “Mansion” and runs its pop-up “Loft,” a third project, the brand’s “Mongolian Village,” will run from November 4-December 31. Another pop-up event, this time featuring individual yurts that take their cue from Shanghai Tang’s Mongolia-themed winter and holiday collection, the Mongolian Village will take place top of Central Ferry Pier 4.
Stocking Shanghai Tang’s full A/W 2011 clothing and accessory lines, as well as a special “Year of the Dragon” tailoring section, the Mongolian Village will also host cocktail parties, VIP dinners and other events over the course of its run.
