China is the latest stop for Fendi’s Peekaboo Project, a charity auction that has seen participants like Zaha Hadid, Adele, and Gwyneth Paltrow. The project enlists local celebrities to design a bag inspired by Fendi’s iconic Peekaboo collection, which will be auctioned off to the charity of their choice.
This time, Fendi is working with Chinese supermodel Liu Wen, celebrity Angelababy, Olympic female diving champion Guo Jingjing, journalist and talk show hostest Yang Lan, artist Liang Yuanwei, and Tim Yip, the production designer and art director best known for Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon (2000).
Each participant worked with Silvia Venturini and Fendi CEO Pietro Beccari to come up with their own limited-edition take on the Peekaboo bag, which will be auctioned off online in the coming weeks. Prices start at around US$11,700 per bag. For most of the designs, only one bag is available. The auction proceeds go to support Chinese charities for children, education, art and literature, and research.

So far, Fendi has launched its Peekaboo project in London, Tokyo, and Seoul, making this the first time for the brand to tap Chinese celebrity talent for the event. The launch of the collection attracted major influencers and KOLs, including Mr. Bags, who frequents Fendi’s fashion shows in Milan. Fendi also livestreamed the handbag reveal on Yizhibo. Fendi’s WeChat followers can still access the campaign videos and the auction platform directly through Fendi’s HTML5 page on WeChat.
Their handbags are currently on display in the “Red” gallery at Beijing’s Taikoo Li North luxury shopping district until June 30.
