Shaoxing Lu Location Inspired By Chinese Calligraphy

Following in the pioneering footsteps of Dong Liang, fellow Beijing-based indie fashion boutique Triple-Major (previously) has staked out its own bit of Shanghai with a cozy second location, located on Shaoxing Lu. First launched by Ritchie Chan in Beijing’s sleepy Baochao Hutong, Triple-Major stocks a curated selection of designers from Scandinavia, China, the US and elsewhere as well as its own in-house label.
Since its debut a little over two years ago, Triple-Major has taken its place as one of the most reliably interesting and groundbreaking of China’s independent multi-brand boutiques — which are now multiplying exponentially in Beijing and Shanghai.
Like its Beijing counterpart, the new Shanghai Triple-Major location centers around a theme. While the Beijing outpost is infused with references to traditional Chinese pharmacies (药), the Shaoxing Lu location is based on the art of calligraphy. Imprinted on the stark white interiors is a depiction of a hand holding a traditional paintbrush, while the shop front features the character for ink, 墨. Proprietor Chan said that the theme was chosen based on Shaoxing Lu’s literary heritage.

Designers and labels stocked in Shanghai mostly miror those at Triple-Major’s Beijing location, among them Henrik Vibskof, Lazy Oaf, Daniel Palillo, and UUendy Lau, with prices ranging from 59 yuan (US$9.40) for socks by The Socks Family to 2,980 yuan ($477) for a cardigan by Vibskof.
