The spotlight will shine on Chinese fashion during this year’s New York Fashion Week at the China Fashion Night gala on September 6. With a special haute couture presentation by legendary Chinese fashion designer Guo Pei and a ceremony honoring New York-based Chinese designer Vivienne Tam, the event will highlight exquisite Chinese design in the luxurious setting of The Pierre. The evening will also feature a performance by Hao Jiang Tian and his I Sing Beijing ensemble.
Hosted by the China Beauty Charity Fund, the evening’s proceeds will benefit the Fashion 4 Development (F4D) Fund, a private sector global platform whose mission is to harness the power of the fashion and beauty industries to implement creative strategies for sustainable economic growth, preservation of culture, wellness, and independence of communities worldwide. The fund supports the United Nations Millennium Development Goals and the UN initiative, “Every Woman, Every Child”.
“I have always believed that New York City is an extraordinary and very powerful incubator for creative talent,” writes China Beauty Charity Fund Chairwoman Yue-Sai Kan of the gala’s location. “Some of the world’s most successful Chinese artists today, such as Tan Dun, Cai Guoqiang, Chen Kaige, and many more have all studied or worked in New York City and have benefited tremendously from this experience which has helped to shape their distinguished careers.”
