Beijing Avant-Garde Fashion Designer Will Share In-Depth Fashion Views
Chi Zhang Haute Couture Party flier
Organized in collaboration with the Chinese high-end social network Nexus of Elegance (当代名士), Chinese fashion designer Chi Zhang — one of Jing Daily’s emerging Chinese designers to watch — will hold a “Haute Couture Party” at the Beijing 798 Zone’s D. Park club on May 28th. At the event, Zhang will share his personal fashion views with attendees as the European DJ group “Luluxpo” and previous winners of the China Global Battle of the Bands, The Amazing Insurance Salesmen, perform on stage.
Born in Beijing, Chi Zhang moved to the UK at the age of 16 to study, later pursuing a fashion design master’s degree in Milan. After returning to China, Zhang opened a studio in his hometown under the brand name Chi Zhang, focusing on menswear with a distinctly avant-garde bent. In recent years, Chi’s work has been featured in fashion spreads in Vogue China, GQ China, and Esquire China, to name a few, and Zhang was named one of China’s Top 10 fashion designers by the China National Garment Association.
Along with other up-and-coming designers like Vega Zaishi Wang, Bo Kewen and Uma Wang, Chi Zhang is part of the movement looking to transition away from “Made in China” to “Designed in China.” According to Chi Zhang, a designer “needs to be trained with open, leading and divergent ideas in order to become a world-class designer.” In a recent interview with Phoenix TV, Zhang added that his ultimate dream is to stand among the world’s top designers, introducing to a global audience the concept of “Chinese-style fashion.”
