The latest installment of Paris Fashion Week featured the same runway shows and groups of fashion rubberneckers we’ve come to expect, but commentators this time around have taken note of one contingent whose presence has been perhaps felt more than ever: Chinese celebrities, designers, bloggers and photographers. However, unlike in years past, these attendees are starting to become fixtures at shows by major brands and smaller boutique labels alike, reflecting the development of a more sophisticated consumer demographic gradually emerging in China’s more cosmopolitan cities. As Vogue China senior fashion editor, Yoyo Yao, told Reuters, “Women’s tastes are becoming more discerning [in China]. They’re now seeking unestablished labels but with a lot of style.”
